If you’re looking for a way to donate your car for charity in New Mexico this year, please consider the Barrett Foundation in Albuquerque. Donate a Car has paired up with the Barrett Foundation to help homeless women in children find shelter, protection, and learning opportunities to help them gain the independence and security they so desperately want.

Homeless Moms in America

There are currently over 600,000 homeless families in America today. Of that number, over 450,000 of those families are single mothers with children. Sadly, single mother homes are at a greater risk of homelessness because of lower pay, often having to spend over half their pay on housing. Many of these families, when faced with a child’s illness, bills they can’t pay, and the rising cost of living, find themselves giving up their housing to simply stay alive.

Many women find themselves in the position of needing increased training to get better pay, but unable to afford education, housing, and food. The poverty that leads to homelessness can become generational without the help of charitable organizations such as the Barrett Foundation

Brother Mathias

The Barrett Foundation, founded by Brother Mathias Barrett in 1985, is dedicated to offering compassion, skills training, and a safe place to stay to homeless women and children in the Albuquerque area. Brother Mathias was known worldwide for his work serving the homeless in Europe, Canada, and America. He often started with nothing, exercising faith and hard work, to organize resources and supplies to feed the hungry and to give them a roof over their head.

When they started, the Barrett Foundation helped under 10 women a night. Now, 30 years later, they serve over 22,000 meals and 7,000 safe sleeping nights every year.  This compassionate service, along with over 1,000 hours of case management services, the Barrett Foundation is helping single mother families get up on their feet, into good employment, and secure housing.

Your Donation at Work

With the donation of your old, unused vehicle to Donate A Car, the Barrett Foundation can turn that donation into dollars that provide clothing, food, housing, and education for a highly vulnerable portion of the American population. The volunteers at Barrett Foundation believe that with nurturing and good training, single moms can support themselves and their families on their own. Your generosity can make the difference between homelessness and a happy home life.
